Sam’s Southern Eatery is a casual dining restaurant known for its homestyle southern cooking and welcoming atmosphere. With a menu featuring fresh seafood, fried favorites, and classic comfort foods, the restaurant has built a reputation for serving flavorful meals that bring people together. Rooted in southern hospitality, Sam’s Southern Eatery focuses on creating a friendly, family-oriented experience where guests can enjoy great food and feel right at home.
For this rebrand, the goal was to refresh the logo for Sam’s Southern Eatery while maintaining the warmth and familiarity the restaurant is known for. The updated design focuses on creating a clean, friendly, and welcoming look that reflects the heart of southern dining. Southern food is known for bringing people together, and Sam’s Southern Eatery is no different.

The Process:
Using thumbnailing, I created quick sketches to explore ideas for the logo and overall brand direction. Working with a team, we refined the chosen concept, and I helped develop the final logo and shape the overall branding.
Concept & Symbolism:
The mark can be broken down to highlight the values of this beloved type of dining. The outer circular shape represents community and connection—two traits that are deeply valued by the company. The circle also acts as a visual representation of a plate, symbolizing service, southern hospitality, and care for the customer.
At the center of the design is what brings everyone together: delicious food. A shrimp icon gives the viewer a clue to what’s on the menu and what the restaurant is known for—fresh seafood. It also creates a sense of familiarity by referencing the original logo while giving it a modern refresh.
Typography:
The typography helps reinforce the restaurant’s personality. A semi-bold slab serif brings in a classic southern feel, while a clean sans serif pairs alongside it to maintain balance and readability.

Color:
Color plays an important role in bringing the logo to life. Bright, bold seaside colors help the mark stand out while also connecting to the restaurant’s coastal southern roots. The use of red is intentional, as it is known to stimulate appetite and attract attention. The blue tones reference the coastal origins of the brand.
Final Logo:
Together, these elements create a logo that reflects everything people love about southern cooking. The design captures the warmth of southern hospitality with an inviting look that sparks anticipation for a delicious meal, friendly service, and an experience rooted in authenticity and tradition.
